Event Summary:

This event is a combined event with the Asia Branch Council and the Singapore FLN Committee.

It is now well-established that the world’s infrastructure needs cannot be met with public or multilateral development bank (MDB) financing alone. At the recent G20 meetings in Hamburg, the MDBs issued the Joint Statement of Ambitions for Crowding in Private Finance, whereby the MDBs committed to increasing overall private sector mobilization by 25-35% over the next 3 years. To meet this goal, the World Bank Group is adopting an approach called “maximizing financing for development” or MFD, which refocuses the way that the World Bank Group approaches advisory and funding to infrastructure sectors, programs and projects.  This discussion will share some of the key elements of this approach, and how the WBG and the private sector might work together to achieve the goals of MFD.
