Event Summary:

As we head towards another State election in Queensland, we have seen both State and Federal Governments draw a line in the sand on renewable energy targets. With the backdrop of South Australia suffering black outs and NSW load shedding, the debate around energy mix and RETs has intensified and both sides of politics are being scrutinised over their policy positions.  The Queensland Government has established the Renewable Energy Expert Panel to outline the pathway towards achieving its 50% RET and is looking for the private sector and broader community to get on board to support its policy objectives.

No doubt, this has created significant domestic and international interest in renewable projects in Queensland, and with ARENA and the CEFC available to financially support such projects, several significant projects have been developed or underway in Queensland and many more are on the horizon, notwithstanding a Federal Government having a renewed interest in coal-fired power stations. We will hear from Director-General of the Department of Energy and Water Supply, Paul Simshauser, and an expert panel about specific opportunities for renewable energy projects and the outlook for the sector in Queensland.
