Event Summary:

Following the formal transfer of responsibility for water services from local authorities on 1 January 2014, Irish Water is now the new national water services authority of Ireland. Irish Water is tasked with driving improvements in water services and providing security of water supply to support population and economic growth and meet future demand. In order to achieve this, increased investment in infrastructure and new approaches to water service delivery and planning are needed to address current deficiencies in water services. Implementing these objectives will require significant investment. A new funding model has also been introduced, based on domestic and non-domestic water charges and Irish Water borrowing on capital markets.

This session will consider the challenges to be faced in financing and rolling out this level of development across the system in the coming years and also the opportunities that this major infrastructural investment will present.
