IPFA Ireland: Dublin: Ireland's Housing Challenge: How Can Project Finance Play A Role?

Ireland is currently facing a significant housing challenge. Its growing economy, together with its burgeoning population (driven by one of the youngest demographics in the European Union) is fuelling the demand for new housing development at an increasingly accelerating rate.

According to the CSO, only 8,800 new homes were added to the stock of housing between the censuses of 2011 and 2016, with the Government predicting, on the basis of Census 2016, that a minimum of 81,118 homes are needed to meet demand in urban areas over the five-year period 2016 – 2020. Accommodation deficits exist across the entire sector, from private residential development to social housing and student accommodation.

Our panel will discuss the ways in which private finance and investment can contribute to addressing these accommodation needs in the future.
