Foundations of Islamic banking were first laid in the mid-20th century throughout the world and 1980s in Turkey. Islamic Banking currently operates in more than 60 countries with close to 1000 interest-free financial institutions. Following the financial crisis of 2007, conventional banking was under question as studies showed that participation banking might be more resistant against the emergence of another financial crisis.

This session will look at current and future opportunities of Islamic Banking, by focusing on the strategic cooperation between public institutions, participation banks and the business world in Turkey today.
