Event Summary:

Please note that this event was previously scheduled to take place on the 14th November.

Infrastructure is a powerful driver of economic growth but is also critical to addressing greater social inclusion as well as climate change. Given the long-term nature of infrastructure assets, public promoters and project sponsors need to consider the long-term impact of each new asset. How does an infrastructure project impact the local community? What are its social and environmental effects, in terms of both benefits and consequences? How might the asset be impacted by climate change? Does the asset contribute the global drive toward carbon reduction?

The incorporation of ESG concerns, at all stages of an infrastructure assets life, is critical to effectively addressing these questions. Project sponsors need to incorporate stakeholder feedback at all levels and most crucially during a project’s development. Raising sustainable long-term financing will also help to ensure the project’s long-term viability; the utilization of green bonds and other similar solutions can facilitate environmental and social commitments in line with international best practice. Lastly, active asset management, incorporating regular monitoring and engagement on key ESG aspects, will ensure that each project over its lifetime can deliver real value to the community and respond to a changing climate.
