The financing landscape for infrastructure projects is changing, with considerable investment from the private sector expected to play a pivotal role; a trend borne out by the European Commission’s and European Investment Bank’s Investment Plan for Europe, designed to unlock public and private investment in the real economy.

As a complement to the Investment Plan for Europe, AFME and ICMA have produced a “Guide to Infrastructure Financing” - a practical overview of the various debt financing components of infrastructure financing, which aims to mobilise private sector investment in infrastructure.

Representatives from the European Commission and the European Investment Bank will present the European Fund for Strategic Investment, the Investment Advisory Hub and the Investment Project Portal – the three fundamental aspects of the Investment Plan for Europe. Following this, a panel comprising AFME and ICMA infrastructure member experts will consider the relative merits of the debt financing choices available for infrastructure, and issues associated with the key features of each, mindful of relevant procurement and planning practices and common project structures, all as reflected in the Guide. They will explore what motivates the private sector to invest in infrastructure, and how to expand investment.

This workshop will benefit investors, as well as procurement authorities, sponsors and project companies – and those advising them – interested in raising debt finance for infrastructure projects.
