IPFA East Africa: Kampala: Adapt to Win Capital Projects in Africa

Africa has for some time been an investment destination of choice for international investors, financiers, project developers and EPC contractors involved in capital project development. International professional firms such as project controls and project management experts, legal advisors, engineers and architects are also following suit as their clients go into the region off the back of projects.

Africa however, does not come without challenges and international players have realised that solutions that work elsewhere in the world do not directly translate into success in Africa. Underestimating the importance of leveraging local experts on construction related projects has impacted returns on investments and many international players are now asking “how are we able to reduce the commercial risk and increase the assurance on our targeted projects using local experts?”

We will therefore discuss how better collaboration between local and international companies can make projects easier and more attractive to investors and at the same time act as a catalyst to develop local businesses.

The speakers will give insight into:

- The project challenges that foreign players experience and how local experts can help reduce the related project risk

- How to articulate the competitive edge you bring as a locally based expert, to international players

- Which international companies are interested in African projects and the sectors they are targeting

- Deal breakers for successful partnering with international companies

- Practical examples of how local team knowledge has brought about project advantage for international companies, as well as examples of where international companies have not considered local involvement as best they could.
