IPFA Turkey: Istanbul: PPPs, The New Wave: Exploring Alternative Structures & Sectors in Turkey

Please note that this event has reached full capacity. Your registration will be put on the waiting list.

Turkey has a goal of high, sustainable and permanent growth. Along with its increasing population, this has led to a greater demand for infrastructure. Given that there are not adequate public resources available for funding, alternative financing and PPP models are required.

In order to meet the capital requirements of substantial infrastructure and energy needs, governments and project sponsors started looking to innovative funding solutions from new sources of capital. Such solutions meant a resurgence of project bonds that offer an opportunity for sponsors to diversify their funding base by tapping into the capital available from institutional investors. In light of these developments, project bonds and alternative structures such as "green bonds" have appeared in the Turkish market due to Turkey's mentioned enormous infrastructure and energy needs.

Turkey has been actively working to revive the Silk Road as part of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative and Turkey's projects over the last 14 years aimed to consolidate the Silk Road over airway, railway, roadway and maritime routes. Up until recently, numerous PPP projects – many of which are greenfield projects – have been implemented in the energy, transport, water, sewerage and healthcare sectors in Turkey. But now railways have started benefiting from a period of significant and sustained investment. There is major investment in high-speed lines, rail solutions to freight and distribution and urban transportation in major cities across the country as the government has made a commitment to expand the rail network. So what are the new structures and sectors forecasted for Turkey? This event will explore the landscape of PPPs with these new alternative financing mechanisms and the growth of new asset classes.
