IPFA Japan: Tokyo: Demystifying the Rise of Gas to Power Projects
On the supply side, traditional LNG sellers such as utilities, portfolio traders and producers are looking for new markets for their LNG. Meanwhile, on the demand side, developing countries facing an increasing demand for power are moving away from coal and with limited domestic gas reserves in production, are increasingly introducing gas into the power mix. Some countries aim to support renewables power generation with gas-fired power generation. LNG or gas to power projects, where the entire value chain is managed as one project by the project company(ies), are now a viable solution and we are seeing enormous growth in the application of this model across the region. There are currently several projects underway in Indonesia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Australia with more in the pipeline.
This session will discuss the key issues in relation to the gas-to-power phenomenon, namely:
- What are the drivers and opportunities in the market for participants?
- What are the emerging development and financing models for these projects?
- What are the key challenges (technical, commercial, legal and financing) in getting these projects away and how are solutions are being found for these?
This seminar will include speakers and panellists who are currently working on multiple LNG to Power deals in the market, who are able to offer insight from experience on the ground. The panel will include an ECA, a bank, a developer, a technical consultant and a legal advisor who are deeply involved in these projects.
