Having signed off its 2016 accounts in March 2017 and paid a £55m dividend in June that year, Carillion PLC announced a contract provision of £845 million in July 2017 and ended up in liquidation in January 2018. At that time, Carillion group companies were design-build contractors in PFI/PPP contracts under construction and were FM services providers in numerous operational projects. Carillion companies also held equity in a large number of project companies.
