Demand for social housing in Australia has consistently outstripped supply in recent decades. There are now over 200,000 households on waiting lists across the country, and fewer than 3,000 new dwellings are being built per year. At the same time, wage growth for the average Australian household is slowing, meaning an increasing segment of the population is being placed in housing stress. Current rates of construction are failing to keep pace with rising need, let alone make inroads into the existing backlog.

In recent years, an increasing part of the response to this complex and multi-faceted issue has been to rely on the private and not for profit sector to come together to finance, deliver and operate the necessary increase in social and affordable housing supply. Join our subject matter experts for an interactive primer and panel discussion on the technical, economic and policy issues facing the financing of social and affordable housing in the Australian market. IPFA and EY look forward to welcoming future leaders for an informative discussion, followed by networking drinks.
