Virtual Germany Executive Breakfast Roundtable
Should One Buy Into the German Hydrogen Strategy?

Intended for senior-level members, we are delighted to have Sebastian Veit, Senior Vice President Governmental Relations at Uniper as the keynote for an intimate and interactive closed-room discussion moderated by Dr. Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, Senior Energy Advisor at Baker McKenzie and former Deputy Director General of the Energy Department of the European Commission.

The importance of hydrogen in the EU's climate policy is acknowledged by both the Commission and the Member States. In June 2020, Germany announced its hydrogen strategy to promote the production of green hydrogen and expand its use in sectors where it can replace fossil fuels. In this Roundtable, we want to discuss whether one should buy into the German hydrogen strategy and what requirements must be met in terms of financial and regulatory support.

Key themes:

- Role and colour of hydrogen in the energy transition

- Development of the regulatory framework for hydrogen in a dynamic or comprehensive way from day one

- Need for subsidies: public and private sources of funding and funding instruments

- Import needs for hydrogen complementing domestic European/German production
