IPFA FLN UK London
Remaining Competitive in the Global Race for Net Zero
In a post-covid world and with the Russian invasion of Ukraine impacting on energy and inflation, the delivery of the UK’s ambitious net zero goals is being challenged. We are at an inflection point where the build out of renewable energy needs to accelerate between 3 and 4 times beyond what has been delivered over the last two decades. Can the UK compete for global investment funds given the response in the US, the EU and China? Can market reforms and policy issues be managed, whilst still attracting investment?
We will explore and discuss some of the key challenges facing the energy industry for Future Leaders, and in particular consider what are some of the immediate priorities for enabling the sustainable acceleration of the energy transition in the context of challenging findings from the IPCC’s 6th assessment report on climate change.
The energy transition represents a significant opportunity for the UK, but only if the market is structured in such a way that is competitive in the global market place and enables long term coordination, planning and investments that are required to scale up industry, skills and delivery capability.
