IPFA UK FLN
Honest Conversations - Social Mobility and the Question of Inclusive Access
This event was originally due to take place in November 2023.
Inequality of opportunity, unequal education, and barriers faced by those from lower socio-economic background prevents equal access to occupations, professions, and opportunities. This leads to a ‘class ceiling’ which requires more than hard work to truly dispel. It requires open conversations, even when difficult, and willingness to learn, however uncomfortable, by all. It requires internal reflection propelling small tangible change across all institutions. It all starts with the decision to engage.
We will explore and openly discuss the nuances that exist surrounding discussions on Social mobility and the key challenges in transforming passion for this key area in DEI into momentum to action. We particularly consider open conversations as a key priority in moving the dial in the right direction and achieving tangible impact.
The time is now for accelerating socioeconomic diversity in the workplace across the UK, but this is only possible if we see this as a collaborative effort to repair a societal issue, starting with the willingness to understand, enquire and listen.
This is an IPFA event for all members organised by the FLN. We encourage all backgrounds, ethnicities, genders and levels of seniority to join.
Discussion points will include:
- To platform an intersectional DEI issue such as social mobility and openly discuss the nuances on the milestones yet to be accomplished to reach parity;
- To engage senior leaders, decision makers, and Future Leaders on this topic, which is often still seen as taboo so everyone can share their views more openly;
- To facilitate a thought-provoking panel discussion on this topic and inspire further discussions and tangible actions; and
- To pilot a cross-institution collaboration with aim to foster more open discussions and sharing of best practise relating to social mobility.
Speakers to be announced shortly
