Evolution of Energy Storage - Long duration solutions to enable the energy transition
Please note that registration for this event has now closed.
Recent reports suggest up to 46GW of electricity storage is needed in the UK by 2035. Of this, up to 24GW of longer duration storage is forecast to be required to help manage the intermittency of renewable generation. Long duration solutions can meet these flexibility requirements and potentially be more cost effective than lithium-ion batteries above a c6-8h duration.
Some long duration technologies are already fully commercialised whereas others are rapidly moving up the maturity curve with innovative pilot projects. With DESNZ currently consulting on the proposed cap-and-floor scheme, we discuss what technological solutions and governmental support schemes are required to incentivise investment in long duration storage, and what barriers need to be overcome to enable deployment at the required rate.
Join us for a stimulating discussion with leading experts and advisors from the long duration storage industry.
Discussion Points:
- The role of long duration energy storage in the energy transition
- Policy support required to incentivise investment in long duration storage
- Challenges in the deployment of long duration storage
- Comparisons of different long duration storage technologies and their commercial readiness
Speakers:
- (Moderator) Richard Thompson, Foresight Group
- Marc Hedin, Aurora Energy Research
- Louise Dalton, CMS
- Tom Clegg, Fichtner
- Robert Hull, Riverswan Energy Advisory
