Our expert panel will explore the opportunities the maritime sector faces in achieving its decarbonisation goals, as it currently accounts for 2–3% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. They will share lessons learned from navigating the complexities of this green transition, including high costs and limited availability of alternative fuels, technological challenges in developing zero-carbon vessels, and regulatory uncertainty.
Discussion points:
- The role of alternative fuels (LNG, biofuels, hydrogen and ammonia) and their availability
- Retrofitting possibilities of existing vessels to decrease emissions
- How ports are transforming to support a decarbonised maritime industry and the role of port authorities in setting environmental standards
- The evolving landscape of financial mechanisms to support decarbonisation efforts in the maritime industry (grants, subsidies, credits) for different stakeholders
Speakers:
- Katja Schwarz, Vice President, Mobility - Maritime Industries, Origination & Structuring, KfW IPEX-Bank (Moderator)
- Arne Osthues, Vice President Maritime Industries, KfW IPEX-Bank
