The European Energy Transition: Investment Opportunity for Pension and Retirement Savings
Investment in European renewables commenced over three decades ago and carbon emissions have been significantly reduced in today’s European power segment. Yet there is still much to do in the broader Energy Transition context – across transportation, the built environment and industrial processes. That was before an evermore complex geopolitical picture emerged in recent years, which has placed critical question markets over issues such as energy security and global supply chains. The need to invest significant capital in energy transition infrastructure comes at a time when many European governments find themselves facing greater fiscal constraints than for many decades and the demand for low-carbon electricity is forecast to increase markedly.
There is therefore a need and an opportunity for pension capital – which represents the retirements savings of millions of people around the world – to play a critical role in driving infrastructure development and modernisation at the pace required and in a way which is sensitive to the costs to the end-user.
Join our expert panel as they examine the above via three angles:
(1) Macro: the Energy Transition is often referred to but what is it and what does it entail? Why does the Energy Transition matter?
(2) Pension perspective: What are pension scheme members focussed on and how are pension trustees/allocators trying to address those needs in the context of the Energy Transition?
(3) Investment outcomes: Can equity and debt investors achieve attractive risk-adjusted returns in the Energy Transition? What are the challenges?
