Hydrogen Horizons: Challenges & Opportunities in Establishing the German Hydrogen Market
Germany’s energy transition relies increasingly on hydrogen as a long-term storage solution and decarbonisation driver across hard-to-abate sectors. However, despite strong policy momentum and pilot activity, the commercialisation of hydrogen faces structural, technical and financial hurdles.
This in-person breakfast session, hosted by Arup, will bring together leading industry voices to explore the current status of Germany’s hydrogen market and what it will take to scale from demonstration to deployment. Key themes include securing off-takers, enabling industrial adaptation, managing infrastructure requirements, and building investor confidence.
Discussion Points:
- How can the industry secure long-term hydrogen off-takers to underpin bankable projects?
- What is needed to prepare heavy industry and logistics for hydrogen uptake?
- What infrastructure gaps exist around hydrogen imports, pipelines, and storage?
- How can the German market become attractive to international hydrogen investors?
