Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) sits at the centre of the aviation sector's decarbonisation strategy, but scaling up SAF production and offtake at pace requires financeable projects, and financeable projects require regulatory certainty. Over the coming year, several pieces of EU legislation that shape the bankability of SAF projects are under review, from the criteria for renewable hydrogen used in e-SAF, to the mechanisms for accounting and trading SAF attributes, to the future scope of the ReFuelEU Aviation mandate itself.
